Video: UNESCO video on Silbo Gomero

If you were looking for some great soundtrack music, this video is the one for you. This UNESCO-produced video outlines the culture and language of the people of the island La Gomera, found in the Canary Archipelago chain.

What I really liked about this video was the fact that you can actually hear the Spanish being spoken in its whistled form in one part of the video, which is really cool. The video also outlines the island’s plan for preserving the culture and linguistic uniqueness of the language through educational use, which is awesome. This video is a really nice general summation of a single case of a whistled language and the theory of the evolution of its use.
